The unintended expatriate blogger behind Spruce Grove Paper

Hi, I'm Liam

I work as a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Ottawa, Canada.

A few years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually grew into a new chapter of life abroad.

How It Started

Moving to Canada wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something larger.

The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more tangled than they should.

The Adjustment Period

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt secure.

Why I Created Spruce Grove Paper

Online information mostly fell into corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.

This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Canada.

What This Site Is (And Isn't)

This site is:

  • Real-world insights from living in Canada
  • Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
  • Updated whenever something truly changes

This site isn't:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • Not a sponsored review platform
  • Not a generic travel blog

Looking Ahead

Our time in Canada goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue recording what we discover.

If you have questions about family life in Ottawa or anywhere in Canada, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Cheers,

Liam
